Peace For Pandas

Do you love pandas? Doesn’t everyone? Giant Pandas are an extremely endangered species. They’re only found in the bamboo forests of China. There is a total population of 1000 pandas left; 100 of which are in zoos located around the world. Giant pandas are very unique in their own way. First of all, they are very popular around the world, from the Chinese golden panda, to stuffed pandas in department stores.  Giant pandas provide a very diverse environment for the locations which they inhabit. They also do not pose any hazard to humans, in any way. They keep mainly to themselves but they’re needed for biodiversity and they maintain structural balance. It’s important for us to help protect the giant pandas before it’s too late.

Causes of Endangerment
The two main reasons for the decrease in their population are the destruction of their habitat as well as hunting and poaching. The giant pandas habitat is very limited, they live off bamboo, and it is their main source of survival.  Their habitats are being destroyed because the population in china is increasing and they’re using up all their resources. Bamboo is very important in a panda’s diet; to stay healthy they need to eat at least 40
pounds of bamboo every day! These are few of many of the factors that contribute in the habitat fragmentation of pandas, but there are many more like deforestation and the pandas are being isolated from each other causing a disruption in their migrations. Hunting and poaching also is very damaging to pandas. There soft and thick fur is greatly valued but hunting is now illegal.

How can we help?
There are many different ways that we can help save this endangered species. WWF is an organization that helps all animals in danger of extinction; ways this organization helps pandas is by asking for donations, the donations are sent to conservation projects, where they help build pandas a safe habitat, study their behaviour and find many more ways to help the endangered species. Another organization is Pandas International, this organization asks for donations as well, but they also provide other fun options that not only help, but help spread the word. With Pandas International you can throw a panda party, where you can buy a kit which includes panda’s photos, posters, stickers, bracelets and much more and all the money you spend on your kit will be donated to helping pandas! These are only few of many organizations; we need to help these pandas! If we don’t take action now, in a few years future generations will never lay eyes on a Panda.

  1. Let me just start off by saying that this blog was very informative. Everybody has a soft spot for pandas and when I found out they we're endangered I was shocked to say the least. I've heard about how Giant Panda's are an endangered species but i never knew that the population of this beautiful animal was as low as around 1000 pandas left!
It seems that WWF and Panda's international are great organizations trying to make a difference. Although i can't make a donation, the next party i throw will definitly be a panda party to help raise money for this great cause! Great blog and i look forward to reading the rest of your blogs.
